Creating GUN A

I went in class, logged in my pc and imported my Gun A mesh design into Maya, ready to be created.

I watched a couple of  Tutorials for Maya, just to make sure I was doing the right thing, Maya is a very delicate software, one small mistake can cause hours of issues, best to take every precarious steps and make to have clean models to be imported and textured.

I imported the PNG file, then started to create some cubes and adjust their vertex to the position of the gun, made a couple of cylinders to recreate the barrel, at this time I made the entire model compact.

I was following my guidelines until the models were blocked out, then I diverted from my doing and separated each parts into smaller units and named after the gun components.

Once the main body was created the rest would just come flowing together. but I had to make sure each parts are modular

I created Sockets for the main gun and attachment parts to make sure that each components could be easily recognizable and so that the weapon can be combined in UE5 and be interacted individually and/or as a single unit.

Once the gun was completed I uv mapped the model.

Once the model was completed I exported each parts separately and imported them in Unreal Engine to see how they would work.

I exported all files in OBJ for now.

Every obj file was imported and combined in Unreal Engine 5 to recreate my original Gun A.

The Gun was successfully Imported into the game engine and ready to be textured. this time instead of Photoshop I will Use a different software that given me lots of problems in the past.

I went to make some quick research about Substance Painter and I Stumbled across the YouTube Channel Stylized Station and I got inspired on using a more stylized texture for my gun.

I followed this video to recreate a stylized texture for my weapon then applied it on the gun body.

My Gun now have a simple texture that I could work on, I went and applied the material on the other parts and combined them on UE5.

I was happy with the way the gun looked and how the textures were blending together.

I created a different texture variation for Gun A.

I followed a few channels to keep myself updated with recent games, I got really interested in a Game called Ultrakill.

I then started working on Gun C, because the pistol required less time to be created. I went into Photoshop and quickly created a guideline for my gun.

As soon as I finished with Gun A, I started working on a secondary gun, I created a Modular pistol and named it Gun C then imported the gun in unreal along Gun A.

After finishing importing the meshes I made sure to apply the texture and combine the parts together.

I decided to Upgrade my gun with more parts to make it result a bit more interesting, and having more interactable components.

I came to the conclusion that wouldn't be able to make 5 different modular weapons in a week, instead I made different modular components to be combined into a weapon.

The Gun Parts:
  • BODY (Manage components)
  • BARREL (Type of  beam)
  • STOCK (Distance travelled)
  • ENERGY (Ammunition)
I exported all the Gun Parts the parts and got ready to start working on Unreal Engine.

I made sure to have at least two different model type for part, so that can switch in game.
