Metroidvania Game Jam: Week 2

Image
You Are The Monster WEEK 2 On week two we had a long discussion on making sure that we stick to the same style. The Story Tim Shaw wrote the story for the game. SYNOPSIS [Game Synopsis for submission to the Game Jam; Will grab Players’ attention]: A young tribesman comes into possession of a mysterious mask that promises him immeasurable power if he only frees the spirit, Mahar, from his prison at the hands of the evil servants of the Great Spirit. NARRATIVE [The game starts with a screen telling the Player the backstory]: Long ago there lived a tribe who worshipped a deity they called ‘The Great Spirit’, who they claimed created the World. One night, as the whole tribe was gathered around a fire in the centre of the village, a mysterious man possessing an odd mask and sword came to the tribe from the shadowy underbrush. Welcoming the stranger, he was invited to share a meal with them, for he was very gaunt.  When questioned about himself and his circumstances, the man remained silent.

Today we discussed the theme of the current Game Jam:  You Are The Monster Location:  Based on African culture in a fantasy setting. Settings:  Temple/Ruin. What are we doing We are being guided through this temple by a guiding spirit, represented by a statue of a giant head. He gives the player abilities for progressing and killing enemies' African masks. It is revealed later on in the game the spirit giving us powers is imprisoned here and is evil and has been working through us. In the last section, we release we have to redeem ourselves and destroy the guiding spirits using the enemies as allies. Enemies are little goblin-ish guys that wear African-styled masks. Killing goblin guys will heal you; standing still for 2-3 mins IRL while they investigate you reveals that they'd hurt you a little before healing you anyway, just slower Secret Pacifist route? (Potentially) Weapons could change as you kill Goblin guys, indicating how Evil/Heroic you are We think we are a force for

THIS IS A BRIEF OF THE EVENTS THAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE GAME JAM  The Start of this year Game Jam was suddent as none of us were actually prepared, to be honest it wasn't planned but I really wanted to to work in a team and make a game, or at least something playable. I though to create my own Game Jam at first in Uni with a few of my class mates, but the idea would involve lot of work and I wanted to compete with other people. My dear friend  Jordan , raccomended me to partecipate to a public Game Jam, and hafter visiting the Website , I decided to partecipate to the upcoming monthly Jam. In about a few days there will be an interesting Jam on Metroidvania , I myself haven't played much of Metroidvenia games, but i'm bit familiar with the genre.  These games usually feature a large interconnected world map the player can explore, although parts of the world will be inaccessible to the player until they acquire special items, tools, weapons, abilities, or knowledge within th
