Magic Potion

 I want to create a consumable item (or a couple of them). I really like the shape and magic effect of this potion, I wish to create my version of this model.



I think this will help me test my skills with small models and se how many various software's I can incorporate on the projects.

I really like the orange tonality.



I am separating each parts in:

  • Glass 
  • Details (parts surrounding the potion bottle)
  • Liquid (see trough coloured substance, I think I'm going to use an amber orange)
  • Inside mesh (could be anything to make the potion more interesting)
  • Bottle Head 
  • Sticker or label
  • Extra (outside effects)
  • Chains or Strings (could be cool to make the potion a bit secured)


I'll try making a fancy potion and posting it in sketchfab



I started by creating a base shape in Maya for my potion, I used some reference I found in google as guideline for my base mesh.



This is the basic Potion



I picked an orange maple leaf, it design is interesting enough to fit inside my potion.


I created the model starting from a reference.


I made the UV and add some bend to the leaf.


This looks like magical maple syrup



I divided the models in two categories, one for the solid material and one for the opacity such as the liquid and glass.




I revisited the model and I add some details



I want to add some extra details at the bottom of the potion to make it look more protected, so i imported the image of the first potion reference and I used the Quad draw tool to create similar details.


I made sure to UV map as i was modelling the component so that i can have a easy time later when i duplicate it and apply it around the potion.


Then i add some extra edges on the back of the shape to give it a bit of 3D and i positioned the shape on the potion glass.


Then i mirrored the mesh around the Potion model, I also made sure to separate the UV



I made another one for the side


Then I positioned the mesh correctly.


I also adjusted the UV maps of the model



I created a high poly version of the model in Maya


Then I imported the model in Substance Painter and I started working on the textures, I also baked the high poly into the low poly.


I also imported the model in Sketchfab to test the effects


This model could use some extra details improvement, I will use ZBrush
