Undead Crown - A cursed crown of fused bone and scorched iron, hovering above its wearer like a spectral omen. Eldritch runes glow between its jagged remains, whispering the voices of lost monarchs. Those who don it gain insight into the realm of the dead, but risk becoming part of it.



The Undead Crown is a relic born from the bones of ancient wraith-lords who defied death, refusing to let their reign end. Forged from twisted bone and scorched iron, the crown hovers eerily above its wearer, glowing with eldritch runes that pulse in time with the wearer’s heartbeat. It is said to be imbued with the essence of lost monarchs, their voices whispering faintly in the wind, urging the wearer toward greater power, but at a terrible cost.

Worn by tyrants who sought immortality, the Undead Crown grants unparalleled insight into the realm of the dead, allowing its wearer to perceive the hidden paths between life and death. The crown links the wearer’s soul to the spirits of those who once wore it, granting them access to long-forgotten knowledge and powerful abilities. However, the longer it is worn, the more the wearer becomes entwined with the restless souls trapped within, slowly losing their own identity as they succumb to the will of those long-dead monarchs. It is said that those who wear it for too long will become one of the wraith-lords themselves, trapped within the crown for eternity.



Why It Fits Seamlessly in the Games

The Legend of Zelda, Elden Ring, and Sea of Thieves all share themes of ancient, cursed artefacts, death, and the undead, making the Undead Crown an ideal fit in each universe.

  • In Zelda, the Undead Crown could easily be a lost relic of a long-dead Hylian king, hidden deep within a forgotten dungeon. Zelda’s lore is full of ancient curses, dark magic, and the spiritual connections to past rulers, making the crown a perfect addition to the world. The floating, ethereal nature of the crown matches Zelda’s magical and otherworldly items, like the Mirror Shield or Phantom Ganon’s armor, and its curse of immortality mirrors the curse of many Zelda villains who seek to defy death.
  • In Elden Ring, the Undead Crown could be the lost diadem of an ancient, undead ruler whose kingdom fell to time and decay. The floating design would make it seem like a relic of a world where death is both a curse and a gift, much like the Elden Lords who once ruled the land. The game’s themes of necromancy, death, and the undead make the Undead Crown a natural fit for the world of The Lands Between, and its eldritch power would align well with the mysterious, otherworldly artefacts that litter the game.
  • In Sea of Thieves, the Undead Crown could belong to a long-dead pirate king, a spectral ruler who still commands the seas even in death. Sea of Thieves thrives on the concept of cursed treasures and ghostly legends, and the floating nature of the crown would fit perfectly with the cursed pirate kings and their undying legacies. The crown’s power could give the wearer command over undead crews or provide visions of hidden treasure, but at the cost of their soul slowly becoming part of the crown’s haunting legacy.

How It Works

The Undead Crown is both a powerful magical artefact and a dangerous curse:

  • Enhanced Perception: The wearer gains the ability to see the realm of the dead, perceiving hidden paths, spectral beings, and glimpses of the past or future.
  • Soul Link: The crown binds the wearer’s soul to the lost monarchs who once wore it, granting them forbidden knowledge, spectral powers, and command over the undead, but eroding their own identity.
  • Cursed Insight: While wearing the crown, the wearer gains access to dark magic and visions, but with each passing day, they grow more entwined with the spirits trapped within, losing their will and becoming a puppet of the past monarchs.
  • Possession: Over time, the crown may take control, forcing the wearer to perform the will of the wraith-lords and eventually become one of them, lost to time and bound to the crown forever.

The Undead Crown is a perfect blend of power, danger, and curse, making it a seamless addition to the worlds of The Legend of Zelda, Elden Ring, and Sea of Thieves. Its eerie nature and connection to the dead make it a fitting relic in each universe, enhancing both the lore and gameplay.

The Laboratory Game Mechanics
